Sweetheart Cake



1 box (22-oz,) cake mix - any flavor
1 env. Dream Whip®
4 oz. (1/2 of 8 oz. pkg.) cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. vanilla
1 can pie filling (any flavor) 

      Prepare cake mix according to directions on pkg.  Bake in a 9x13" pan.  Cool completely.  Whip Dream Whip; add cream cheese and vanilla and beat in well.  Spread on top of cake; top with 1 can pie filling.  Chill before serving. 
Note: I prefer using 1/2 pint (1 cup) whipping cream in place of Dream Whip. I beat the cream until it starts to thicken, and then add cream cheese and vanilla and beat until very thick. If I use cherry pie filling, I like to add 1/4 tsp. almond extract to it.
