TOMATO SOUP



1/2 c finely minced onions

1/2 tsp butter or margarine

2 cups canned stewed tomatoes
 (home canned are best, but store bought work fine)
1/4 tsp baking soda

2 cups milk

salt and pepper to taste

In a 2 quart sauce pan, melt the butter
 and saute the onions until they are tender.
 
Add the tomatoes and bring to a boil.
 
 Mix in the baking soda and remove from heat.
 
 After it stops foaming, add the milk and heat through.
 
 Season to taste.
 
 Serve with crackers and additional pats of butter.
