Indian Fry Bread

 
 
 
 
2 c. flour

2 tsp. baking powder

2 tbsp. lard/Shortening

1/3 c. powdered milk

1 tsp. salt

3/4 c. warm water

Oil for frying

Mix allexcept for the lard/shortening  and water.  Add 1 tablespoon of lard/shortening. Cut in until crumbly.  Add water and mix until soft dough forms.  Knead until smooth texture.  Make into 12 balls.  Melt the other tablespoon of lard/shortening  and brush each ball.  Set aside for about 30 to 45 minutes.  On a lightly floured board roll each ball into a 4 inch circle.   Fry in oil  until lightly browned, turning once.  Serve with butter and or honey.
