Old Fashioned Chocolate Frosting



2 cups sugar 
1 1/4 cups milk 
1 heaping tablespoon powdered chocolate 
dash salt 
pinch baking soda 
1/2 stick margarine 
1 teaspoon vanilla 

In sauce pan mix sugar and chocolate.
 
 Then add milk, dash of salt and mix well.
 
 Set on stove on medium heat stirring frequently and let come 
to boil; add margarine and let come to boil and keep stirred.
 
 Let get to a good boil and add pinch of soda.
 
 Let boil until it comes to a soft ball stage stirring constantly.
 
 (I have a cup of ice water to drop in) When it is at soft ball stage, add vanilla. Remove from heat and beat until it gets to spreading consistency. Spread on cake.
