2-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup vinegar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla
Combine sugar, water, vinegar, salt and butter in a heavy bottom pan. Cook without stirring over medium heat until mixture reaches 270ºF (soft crack stage).
Remove from heat at once and add vanilla.
Pour into a buttered 15x10x1" pan.
Cool until you can handle it.
Butter hands, pull candy until it is light in color and difficult to pull.
(Much easier if you have an extra pair of hands helping!)
Divide candy in half, pull each into a (1") rope.
Cut into 1" pieces.
Wrap each piece in wax paper.
