Southern Banana Pudding

1 pkg. (4 oz.) vanilla pudding
2 egg yolks, slighly beaten
25 vanilla wafers
2-1/2 cups milk
2 large bananas, sliced 
2 egg whites 
1/4 cup sugar

      Heat oven to 425ºF (220ºC). 
Combine pudding mix, egg yolks and milk in saucepan.
  Cook and stir over medium heat until
 mixture comes to a full boil.  Remove from heat. 
 Arrange layers of wafers on bottom and sides of a 1-1/2 qt.
 baking dish.  Add a layer of banana slices,a layer of pudding.
  Repeat layers. 
Beat egg whites with enough salt to make
whites foamy thoughout.  Gradually beat in sugar,
 and continue beating until mixture will form stiff shiny peaks.
  Put lightly on pudding, sealing edges well.  Bake 5 - 10 minutes,
 or until lighty browned.  Serve warm or shilled.
  Garnish with (additional) banana slices.  Serve at once.
