Creole Spanish Steak

1-1/2 lb. round steak, 1" thick
2 tbsp. bacon grease or fat
2 cups tomatoes, cooked or canned
2 small onions, sliced
enough water
3  whole cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 small bay leaf
    Sear steak in bacon grease.  Pour tomatoes over steak; add onions and enough water to cover.  Add spices and cook slowly on stovetop or in oven at 350ºF  1 hour.  Makes 6-8 servings.
